**Note: There are two posts for this week**
We survived our trip to Cancun! To sum up this vacation, it was busy! I think we are all still recovering from our week in the sun. Vacation with a 3 and 1 year old isn't your typical vacation. I'm used to sleeping in, going to our spot on the beach and spending most of the day in the sun only to get up for lunch, a dip in the ocean or happy hour. Not this trip! Overall the trip was great and the boys were good. We are very proud of our two travelers! They have no idea how lucky they are!
Here are the pictures to highlight our trip!
The flight down was a success. Spencer stayed busy with books, movies and moving back and forth between seats. Easton was wake for the first 30 minutes and then slept all but the last 25 minutes. Both boys were ready to get off the plane when we landed. Everyone commented on what great travelers they were. Since Grandma and Grandpa have been the world travelers they were able to upgrade us to first class! Wow it was nice to have all the extra space, free food, drinks and milk! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!
It didn't take long after we got there to get our suits on and head to the pool. We have a little fish on our hands! Spencer skipped nap time a few times during the week to keep swimming.
Easton spent the first day just floating around the pool. He wanted nothing to do with this floaty the rest of the week.
Spencer was so excited to go to the beach. He loved the sand and the waves.
Happy Hour! Easton tested out the limes. Even though he kept making awful faces he kept going back for more.
Having breakfast in the room.
Trying to keep up with the big boys!
The resort had a playground area. It was a nice break from the pool and the beach. Spencer kept pulling up his shorts so sand wouldn't get in them when he walked!
Spencer got to paint shirts 2 days. The first day he was so excited to make a shirt for Finley. He knows how much Finley loves the movie Cars! The 2nd day he painted Stitch from his new favorite movie Lilo and Stitch.
Easton fell asleep like this on our bed.
We joined in on the pool games.
Going out to dinner was nice but challenging at times. Both boys were hungry and tired by the end of the day. We finally learned to feed Easton before we would go and then he would sleep through most of dinner. I wish we would have figured this out from day 1!
Spencer was so tired that he actually fell asleep like this at dinner one night!
Every day we would make a few trips to the beach. Spencer wanted to be in the waves but they made him nervous at the same time. He would stand on the edge of the water and if they got to big he would go running back. Finally on the last day I was able to bring him a ways out and we actually swam in them for awhile. He loved it!
We took over this part of the pool area. It was right by the kiddie pool.
Easton loved playing on the edge of the pool and throwing toys in and out. A little boy joined him. I think they played by each other for at least 45 minutes. What made this friendship work so well was neither of them spoke English!
Trying to get a family picture is getting harder and harder these days. One of them was either sleeping or not wanting to look at the camera.
You can't tell by this picture very well but you should have seen how curly Easton's hair was all week.
A lot of people would stop to look at our blonde hair, blue eyed boy with his curls. His hair is exactly how Grandpa's was when he was a baby. Hopefully Easton will be able to keep his hair longer!
Our first few nights in the hotel were awful. Easton's arms or legs would get caught in the crib. Finally Grandma made a quick bumper out of sheets and that seemed to solve the issues. The other thing that kept us up at night was Spencer's snoring. Thankfully Ryan likes to share a bed with him. He has to be the loudest snorer ever!
Both Spencer and Easton have no fear when it comes to water. There was a day when I'm pretty sure Spencer was in the pool for about 7 hours. It amazes me how well kid's sunscreen works. We made sure to always re-apply and Spencer had no troubles keeping his hat and sunglasses on. Even Easton loves the water. There were a few times when he would be standing on the pool step and go to reach for something and before you could grab him he would be under the water. He would come up like nothing ever happened. He even kept trying to stick his own face in the water!
Our last day started out just like all the others. We went and had breakfast (the boys let me sleep in a little that day). We headed to the pool to swim.
We spent some time on the beach making sand castles and swimming in the ocean.
Easton took a quick cat nap by the pool.
There was a water balloon fight in the kiddie pool. Spencer had more fun holding onto his water balloon and watching the other kids. I was happy because the game got pretty intense.
They shared a snack by the pool.
We ate lunch
Spencer had his face painted like a pirate again. Only this time in his favorite color orange.
While Easton and Grandpa were in the room for nap time. A few of us watched while the other's played beach volleyball.
***Warning this next picture isn't pretty and if a little blood makes you sick skip over it!***
After the volleyball game was over we were going to take Spencer to the showers by the beach to rinse off. After he was done I wrapped him in a towel and not wanting him to walk I asked Ryan to pick him up and carry him. In the moment it took Ryan to set his drink down Spencer took one step forward and tripped on his towel. He fell face forward and I saw his chin land on the stairs. I could see right away that it was cut. They called security and we knew he was going to need stitches. It wasn't a big cut but it was deep! Thankfully our resort has a doctor on site. We went to the office and waited about 30 minutes (the doctor was at an emergency). We brought Spencer into the exam room and panic set in on his face. We put him on the table and they wrapped him in a towel (like a restraint) and told Ryan he would have to help hold him down. She then put a drape over Spencer's face and that's when he lost it and started crying. It was awful! I think we were all crying. She cleaned it up and she gave him shots of novicane. She then started to stitch him up. After the first few pokes I had to ask if she knew for sure that he was numb enough because he was screaming bloody murder! She ensured me that he was and continued. It was the longest 10 minutes ever! I don't look forward to when we have to have them taken out. But with 3 boys I'm sure this will be the first of many stitches. He is very proud now though of his pirate looking wound. I did make a call to our doctor when we got home and they said to keep an eye on it and that we would need to be seen in 5-7 days to have the stiches taken out. He is such a tough little boy. It still breaks my heart though thinking about it. As you can see in the below picture, it was a decent size cut. He fell asleep in Ryan's arms while we waited for the doctor to arrive. They were initially concerned about a potential concussion and since he fell asleep so easily while we waited. We kept waking him up while we waited and then woke him up a couple of times throughout the night to ask him some basic questions to make sure he was okay. At 1:00 am he knew Ryan was daddy and that his name was Spencer. All in all, he's a tough little guy!
Our last dinner was a grill out by the pool.
One last look at the view from our room!
The flight home was pretty much a repeat as the flight to Mexico. Spencer played and Easton napped. It was great to finally be home. The person in our family though that was the most excited to see their own bed was Easton. He giggled when I brought him into his room to put him down and almost jumped out of my arms to get into his bed. He was so excited that he slept 17 hours!!
Thank you again to my mom and dad for such a great vacation! Not only for taking us with you but for all the help you gave with the boys! We are all very lucky!
